Blue Underground released Maniac Cop III on DVD and Blu-ray on November 19, 2013. Reception. DVD Talk's Adam Tyner, who gave Maniac Cop III an overall grade of 1.5 out 5 stars, called the film "borderline unwatchable" and said "nothing about the movie works" due to drawbacks like the plodding and directionless pace, and witless dialogue.

Why do you guys like Maniac Cop? And by “you guys” I mean whoever created the demand for multiple sequels and this upcoming Blu-Ray? Maybe it’s Bruce Campbell fans, maybe it’s Tom Atkins Blue Underground goes out of their way as always to bring fans a great blu ray, in it’s unrated version in fact. There is no shortage of special features either as the movie has several deleted or extended scenes (none really all that good) and a fantastic featurette about the troubled production on Maniac Cop 3. Reviewing the Blu-ray release, J. Hurtado of Twitch Film wrote that despite its faults, Maniac Cop deserves mention as one of the last grindhouse films set in New York City. Blu-ray review of Blue Underground's 3-Disc Limited Edition of Maniac (1980) , directed by William Lustig and starring KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Regina King Maniac Cop takes out his vengeance on Blu-ray with a great-looking 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 encode that offers a noticeable improvement over previous standard definition releases. The source used appears to be in great condition, showing excellent clarity and resolution from beginning to end, with crisp, comfortably bright contrast levels. BLU-RAY REVIEW Much like the Blu-Ray for Maniac Cop 2, Part 3, the collector's edition, is a Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack, boasts a strong transfer, a crisp image, a pretty good sound mix and a strong set of extras. Maniac Cop is the film equivalent of making a bologna and cheese sandwich with five star ingredients- it’s all familiar and you know what to expect, but it tastes much better.
